Long Description

Endling, n. The last surviving member of a species.

What happened to humanity? Maybe it was climate catastrophe, or war, or some combination of things. Whatever it was, the population of humans has been reduced to tiny scattered bands, none of which has the numbers or genetic diversity to survive.

Members of the Interstellar Species Preservation Coalition have taken individuals from one of these tiny populations into captivity, in hopes of learning more about the species before it vanishes altogether. There is also debate as to whether it is worth trying captive breeding to preserve the species, or whether it is best to let nature take its course.

“Endlings” is a game exploring what it means to be human, and what it means to confront extinction - your own or someone else’s. You may play either one of the surviving humans or one of the aliens of the ISPC trying to learn more about humanity and decide its fate. Characters will be developed in a pre-game workshop based on some initial concepts provided by the author.

The humans in this game are being held captive, and that captivity will not end during game. However, they are being treated humanely, and while the alien scientists may have differing opinions about what to do, they are not intended to be cruel. While the feel and details of the game will depend on player choices, it is intended to have a serious tone, but not a hopeless one.
