Speed Dating for Monsters is a speed-dating LARP focused on building connections, with lots of optional (but encouraged) costuming opportunities. The primary emphasis is on one-on-one and small-group interactions suitable to a singles cruise, with the majority of play-time taking place as short speed-dating rounds, interspaced with group events and free-mingle sessions.

Characters will take on the role of a broad set of mythologically-inspired and fantasy beings, some more guarded about their identities than others, and all looking to make some sort of connection, romantic or otherwise. Different characters will have different goals, some more structured than others, to try to accomplish during the game. Most characters will have pre-existing connections (positive and negative) to multiple other characters.

While no characters have assigned genders, many fantasy monsters are historically gendered. To that end, some characters will come with a "suggested gender aesthetic" (while others may exist quite far outside of the traditional binary) but this will be 100% optional, and take into account player surveys.

Note: We ran a fuller version of this game at Summer Larpin' 2022 and Intercon U, called "Monster 4 Monster". This game has no additional plot besides individual character goals and the group goal of "finding connection". Playing this game contains partial spoilers for Monster 4 Monster in terms of individual character goals, but does not spoil the other plot elements present in the full game. This game also ran in a limited fashion as Speed Dating for Monsters over discord. If you've played either version before (M4M or SDfM), we encourage you to let us know so we can cast you as someone new (or re-cast you as the same character if you really want to explore the character further!).

Mask Policy: Masks are required at all times except for brief breaks to sip water or other liquids. Please do not plan to eat at or bring food to this game.

Time Policy: If there is turbo-high demand for more spots, this game may be optionally expanded to be bigger + longer (up to 28 players and 4 hours).

NPC Policy: This game has one NPC slot, that does NOT need to be filled for the game to run. NPC duties include helping to reorganize chairs, ensuring characters move at the end of the speed dating rounds, and possibly managing light activities such as cursed pictionary or build-your-own-homonculus. If the game ends up with an odd number of players, the NPC may be called upon to participate in some of the speed-dating rounds. NPCs have no formal backstory or character sheet.
