You will wake and have an entirely routine work morning. At 10:12am, you will be summoned to the Sphere Chamber.

Then you will get to choose. Please choose carefully.
One year ago today, the Messages began. Everyone, everywhere, with an email or social media account (which, this being the near future, is most of the planet) began to receive a message each morning, saying what their upcoming day would be like.
At first, everyone thought it was just a prank, but after a couple of days everyone began to realize that the Messages were eerily accurate. Maybe not perfectly so -- you've heard accounts in the media about Messages that were way off-base -- but they are usually spot-on correct. Nobody knows what's going on here, or how it works; theories range from a company testing some sort of advanced AI (or a rogue AI having gotten out of control), to space aliens, to divine intervention. All attempts to track it down have hit dead ends.
A few days later, the Sphere was discovered, floating eight feet off the ground in an Iowa cornfield. Not anything huge or scary: just a featureless silver sphere, perhaps a foot across. But nobody could tell how it was hanging there, and nobody could move it, no matter how much force they applied. Given the timing, everyone assumed that it was probably related to the Messages.
Now, you are working at the Sphere Research Institute, a scientific organization that has been built around the Sphere (which is now encased in a lab on the second floor). You might be a scientist, an administrator, a janitor -- you come from various walks of life. You know a couple of the other people here today, but all that you all have in common is this building. And of course, the Messages.
This morning, you received the above Message. It is 10:12am, and as promised, you've been called to the Chamber.
Having been called together here, you will have an opportunity to ask a question of the Sphere -- something that has never happened before -- and compare information and opinions about what is going on here. Collectively, you will influence what happens next.
Most of the game will be the players talking and working with each other, but much of their interaction with the Sphere will be private, so each player can manage their own opinions separately from what they share with the group.
