Shrivel and Sustenance: A Plant Themed Murder Mystery

In a world where plants walk the earth just like humans do, the less savory parts of society remain ever-present. In the Sustenance Bar, one unfortunate soul will shrivel up and lose their precious plant life. It is up to the rest of the flora to unearth the culprit.

In a world where plants walk the earth just like humans do, the less savory parts of society remain ever-present. In the Sustenance Bar, one unfortunate soul will shrivel up and lose their precious plant life. It is up to the rest of the flora to unearth the culprit.

Shrivel and Sustenance is a plant-themed murder mystery theater event. This plant world mirrors the current world in many ways, and our story takes place in what would be the 2000s. Each player takes on the role of a sentient plant character (any type of flora: plants, trees, etc), a walking, talking, seeing version of a given flora. They wear the same clothes that we would. They have many of the same jobs, and also have the same feelings. But with those very feelings, comes the motives for murder...

Players have two options for roles - Actor (characters vital to the story), or Detective (characters that observe and solve the mystery). During the larp, we will act through the events at Sustenance Bar that night, including the murder of one of the characters. After that, the Detectives will gather evidence, interrogate suspects, and ultimately decide who the culprit is. If they are right, the culprit is apprehended, but if they are wrong, the culprit gets to walk free...

We would like 8 Actors, and up to 8 Detectives.

• Actors are given a plant character to act as during the event. They are given a character synopsis, an itinerary summarizing necessary actions for each phase, as well as secret character goals that inform the player's improv and that they should work towards achieving. Each Actor may have a secret to hide, and may need to lie in order to further their own goals.
• Detectives can create their own plant character. They will act as that character during the event. Their plant character can be any profession, and does not need to be an actual detective. They can converse with the Actors during the event, but have little impact on the story until the Investigation phase, where they must use the evidence they gather to decide who the culprit is.

I ran this event in November, and it was a ton of fun! Super excited to run it again.
