Long Description

An experiment in a temporal research lab in Hawaii goes wrong, sending a group of researchers and meddlers into the minds of their alternate selves in a search for fulfillment, self-actualization, and ultimately, meaning. A game written for MOLW 2022.

Shamelessly inspired by Everything Everywhere, All At Once, Time Crash Resurrection at Hawaii University is a scene-based, genre-jumping surrealist litform larp, in which players will play a sequence of different versions of the same character in a variety of genres and situations, as their “base” characters’ conciousness-es extend into other possible (however implausible) alternative selves. Each scenario has its own rules, its own problems and conflicts – but ultimately, the characters will be asked to resolve questions of what they truly care about–and what they would change, if only they could.

GMs will end a scene when: enough time has passed, the main problem has been resolved, the situation has gotten much worse, or as seems sufficiently dramatically appropriate. With that understanding, you have the freedom to roleplay or conflict as you feel appropriate, as suggested by your interpretation of your character and your character sheet(s).

While a vague roadmap of the worlds may be provided weeks beforehand, characters will be chosen when all players have arrived on the day of the run. This is done by picking an envelope with a short phrase (a character theme) you're interested in exploring further. Character genders - if any - are determined by players, and at minimum may be changed by players between scenes. In each alternate world, shorter sheets will be provided for the characters (usually versions of the same person) in the new world which players will be expected to read, and put into practice after a short, out-of-character break. As such, costuming is not really expected (although certainly not discouraged).
