Long Description
I challenge you to a children's card game!
The weak have lost. The wise have fled. Only the brave, the foolish, and the champions remain. This is Dueling Death Cards: the wildly popular (and controversial) card game banned in 17 countries for its ties to numerous deadly accidents, as well as the mysterious disappearance of the Eiffel Tower. And now, Providence RI is hosting the largest children's card game tournament the world has ever seen...and you're one of the finalists!
The stakes: your reputation, your health, and maybe your soul.
The prize: millions dollars in sponsorship opportunities ... and much, much more.
Dueling Death Cards is a LARP built around a simple CCG (collectible card game mecanic), with a plot based heavily on anime tropes. While the game is inspired by Yugioh: The Abridged Series, it takes place in an entirely unique world, with its own characters and lore.
Not every competitor is focused on winning the tournament, and the majority of character goals can be completed without winning any duels. Several "noncombatant" characters, such as sponsors and announcers, are available for those who prefer to not participate directly in the tournament.
The LARP side of this game uses the Catchphrase System, a modified secrets-and-powers mechanic where players use powers by yelling catchphrases at each other.
NOTE: A sequel to this game, entitled "Deadly Dice Battles," is also being run at this convention. Both games are entirely self-contained, but a few characters are present in both games, and there will be an option to request a continuity character (and/or a spoiler-free reduced character sheet) for anyone signed up for both games.
