Long Description
Setting Overview
You’re at HyperCon, a massive sci-fi & fantasy convention. The costume contest is the marquee event tonight. Most attendees in this room are
regulars on the pageant circuit who travel con-to-con competing for trophies, prestige, and sponsorships. 8 contestants, 1 blogger, 1
sponsor, and 1 security staff, 1 utility staff.
In addition, 3 judges will be played by GMs. Unlike in previous years, this year there will be no drama, in-fighting, politics, bribery, or
murder!
What Everyone Knows
1) Regulars & one sponsored pro: Almost everyone here is a circuit regular; one contestant is officially sponsored.
2) Cutthroat & dramatic: These contests are insanely competitive; there’s always drama. Last year, a judge (John Walker, not present this year)
had some kind accident… or maybe not an accident.
3) Reigning champion has won three years in a row.
4) Beloved veteran has never won, but always places well and is widely liked.
5) A breakout up-and-comer is taking the scene by storm this year.
6) High stakes: Prizes are top-tier, and industry scouts may be watching.
Today’s Event Shape (IC)
Phases: (1) Initial Costume Parade → (2) Talent Portion → (3) Interview Portion → (Finale) Winner Announcement.
Vibes: Big stage energy, rivalries, whispers, and strategic alliances are expected.
Community Tone
Fierce competition and a shared love of craft. Rivalries, sponsorship pitches, blog coverage, and rumor mills are part of the culture. Also
slightly absurd/over-the-top. A judge getting taken out is a cause for dramatic whispers and recalculated schemes, but probably not a
source of empathy or fear.
