Pondflower Inn
Two adventuring parties find themselves spending a night of cozy revelry in the Pondflower Inn, but not all is as it seems... When did they arrive here? Does the tavern have an exit? And even if it did... would they ever want to leave?
Long Description
A fire crackles in the hearth, casting the cozy tavern in a warm glow. Cheerful drinking tunes drift throughout the hall, as adventurers gulp down spiced drinks and enjoy each others' company. They have found themselves in the Pondflower Inn--a quaint little roadside tavern, where they can relax for a night before continuing on their merry way. The two adventuring groups within the Inn, the heroic Sunrise Guard and the inquisitive Relic Seekers, eagerly swap stories while the tavern staff move about, making sure they stay content. It is good within the Inn... cozy, peaceful, serene.
How lucky, how fortunate these adventurers are to have come to this place! They do not notice the tiny details… like how the tavern has no door, or how the music plays without a source. And why would they? Even if they did notice such things, they could not leave. And even if they could leave, they would not want to. The world outside doesn't matter anymore… and here in the Inn, they have everything they could ever need.
Pondflower Inn is a medieval fantasy LARP centered around the themes of desires, comfort, and reckoning with tragedy. The game draws inspiration from Dungeon Meshi and In Stars and Time, among other things. The game has a strong focus on drama and character exploration, diving into each character's fears and desires, as well as how they reckon with things not going how they would have hoped. There is no winning or losing--what happens during the game, and what happens to the characters when it ends, will all be left in the hands of the players. Also, while some characters may do some light mystery-solving to figure out what's happening with the tavern, it is not the primary focus of the LARP--most of the focus is on exploring the mindsets and relationships of the character trapped within.
The game itself will run for three hours--there will be some announcements before the game begins, and a short debrief once it ends. The LARP is fairly mechanics-light--however, there will be reveal sheets handed out partway through the game, which are intended to be read OOC and will give info/missing memories back to characters (these will be explained in further detail during the pre-game announcements). I will also be playing an HPC (helper player character) in the game--this means that I will be in character, but my character is not involved in any major conflicts/plots and mainly exists as a resource for when players are unsure of what to do (and I will also be available to go out-of-character to discuss things at any point).
Finally, a note on tone: the game is intended to be a fairly emotionally intense one, with many characters struggling with heavy loss or regrets. However, it is also not a complete tragedy, and there will be many opportunities for comfort and hope amidst all the difficult things. (In fact, finding those opportunities is a major theme of the LARP!)
If this all sounds interesting to you, go ahead and sign up! The Pondflower Inn eagerly awaits your arrival :)
